RCMP traffic stop leads to large seizure of illegal tobacco

Tobacco seized

On January 14, 2021, at approximately 4:00 pm, Brandon RCMP along with the Roving Traffic Unit, conducted a traffic stop on Highway 1, in the RM of Whitehead.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a substantial amount of illegal tobacco products.

A 44-year-old female and 23-year-old male, both from Grande Prairie, Alberta, were arrested. They are facing charges of Possession of Unstamped Tobacco under the Criminal Code, Possession of Unstamped Tobacco under the Excise Act 2001 and Possession of Unstamped Tobacco under the Tax Administration and Miscellaneous Taxes Act.

They were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court on April 8, 2021, in Brandon.

RCMP continue to investigate.
