Victoria man is arrested for impaired driving twice in less than six months

December 17, 2021
Harbour Grace, Newfoundland and Labrador

News release

A Victoria man was arrested for impaired driving early this morning by Harbour Grace RCMP. This is his second time being arrested for impaired driving within the last six months.

Shortly before 3:00 a.m. today, Harbour Grace RCMP conducted a traffic stop on Water Street in Carbonear and suspected that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The man failed a roadside breath test, was arrested for impaired driving and was transported back to the detachment where he provided breath samples that were more than twice the legal limit. The same man was previously arrested and charged with impaired driving following a single-vehicle crash that occurred on July 24, 2021. That matter is currently before the court.

The man was released from custody without his vehicle, which was seized and impounded, and without his driver's licence, which was suspended. He is set to attend court at a later date to answer to additional charges of impaired driving. As these new charges are not yet sworn before the court, police are not permitted to name the driver.

RCMP NL continues to fulfill its mandate to protect public safety, enforce the law, and ensure the delivery of priority policing services in Newfoundland and Labrador.
