Update: Man charged with second degree murder in connection with homicide

Update: On November 22, 2023, Dylan Dedam appeared in Miramichi Provincial Court, and was sentenced to a total of ten years in prison. Upon his release, he will be prohibited from owning weapons for life.

Original news release:

A 27-year-old man from Esgenoôpetitj First Nation has been charged with second degree murder in connection with a homicide in the community.

On June 2, 2022, at approximately 1:15 p.m., members of the Neguac RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance at a home on Algonquin Road in Esgenoôpetitj First Nation. When police arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The suspect had fled the scene before police arrived.

A 27-year-old man was later arrested in connection with the investigation.

The victim, a 36-year-old man from the community, was transported to hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries. He was identified as Joshua Ian Robichaud.

On December 13, Dylan Dedam appeared in Miramichi Provincial Court and was charged with second degree murder. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on August 8, 2023.

The investigation is ongoing.
