Port Saunders RCMP arrests impaired driver following single-vehicle crash

A 48-year-old man from Port aux Choix was arrested for impaired driving by Port Saunders RCMP on Saturday evening after a single-vehicle crash that occurred on Route 430.

At approximately 9:00 p.m., police received a report of the crash on the Northern Peninsula Highway, north of Port Saunders, and attended the scene. The driver, who was suspended from driving, showed signs of alcohol impairment and became aggressive towards police. During his arrest, the driver assaulted and uttered threats to an officer and resisted arrest. He was taken into police custody and was transported to the detachment. He provided breath samples that were nearly twice the legal limit.

The man was released from custody and is set to attend court at a later date to answer to charges of impaired driving, assaulting a police officer, uttering threats and resisting arrest.

His driver's licence was further suspended and the vehicle was seized and impounded.
