Update: Victoria County District RCMP has identified boat owner

Victoria County District RCMP has identified the owner of a 16-foot Starcraft boat that was adrift in the Bras D'Or Lake near New Harris Settlement.

On May 27, at approximately 8:20 p.m., Victoria County District RCMP responded to a report of a boat that was observed adrift in the Bras D'or Lake near the Seal Island Bridge in New Harris Settlement. RCMP officers learned that no one was observed on the boat or in the area. The Sydney Mines Volunteer Fire Department and the Joint Rescue Co-Ordination Centre (JRCC) also attended the scene to assist.

The owner of the boat has since contacted the Victoria County District RCMP and has confirmed that no one was in the boat when it went adrift. All resources in the area assisting with search efforts today are being withdrawn.
