The RCMP-RNC Integrated Internet Child Exploitation (IICE) Team has arrested and charged 36-year-old Kyle Hillier of West Bay with online child exploitation offences.

In November of 2021, with the assistance of Bay St. George RCMP, IICE executed a search warrant at Hillier's residence pertaining to two separate reports of online child exploitation activity received from the National Child Exploitation Crime Centre in Ottawa. A number of electronic items were seized and sent for forensic analysis.

The results of the forensic analysis, as well as other evidence collected, led to the arrest and charges laid against Hillier on July 19, 2022. He is charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Possession of Child Pornography
  • Accessing Child Pornography
  • Transmission of Child Pornography – Two counts

In accordance with arrest and release procedures, Hillier was released on conditions designed to protect the general public. He is scheduled to appear in Stephenville Provincial Court on September 26, 2022.

The RCMP-RNC IICE team encourages caregivers and youth to learn about current online threats and safety practices at cybertips.ca, protectchildren.ca, kidsintheknow.ca and dontgetsextorted.ca.

Child pornography cases require complex forensic examination of seized electronics, followed by additional investigation actions. Consequently, criminal charges in these cases are often laid 9-12 months after the execution of a search warrant.
