Balmoral, New Brunswick

News release

A 25-year-old man from Balmoral, N.B., has been charged following an armed robbery in the community.

On March 14, 2023, shortly before 8 p.m., members of the Campbellton RCMP responded to a report of an armed robbery at a business on Pioneer Avenue. A man who was believed to be in possession of a firearm entered the business, demanded money, and left the scene before police arrived. The man left with an undisclosed amount of money and cigarettes. No one was injured during the incident.

Police subsequently identified a person of interest in connection with the incident.

On March 15, acting on information received, police followed up on tips and conducted searches in the areas of Balmoral, Dalhousie and Eel River Crossing in an attempt to locate the person of interest. As a result, there was an increased police presence in those areas. At the time, the police presence and searches did not meet the criteria for an Alert Ready message, however, the New Brunswick RCMP is always prepared to issue an Alert Ready message should there be a need, or there is an immediate risk to public safety.

Members of the Campbellton RCMP, with the assistance of RCMP Police Dog Services, later located the person of interest in Balmoral, and he was arrested without incident.

On March 16, Jessy Selesse appeared in Campbellton Provincial Court and was charged with armed robbery.

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on March 20, 2023 at 1:30 p.m.
