Annapolis District RCMP has arrested two men after a weapons complaint in Nictaux.
On March 8, at 8:57 p.m., Annapolis District RCMP responded to a report of a man believed to be in possession of a long gun near a gas station. RCMP officers arrived on scene at 9:01 p.m.; however, the man wasn't located. A witness provided officers with the name of a 45-year-old Nictaux man, leading them to immediately attend a nearby home on Hwy. 201.
While setting up containment on the home, officers stopped a vehicle that had been heading to the residence, and advised the driver he was not to approach. The driver refused to listen to the direction of the officers; he drove into the driveway of the home, exited his vehicle, and tried to enter the residence. RCMP officers placed the driver under arrest for Obstruction and he began resisting. Officers were able to gain control of the man and took him into custody without further issue.
A few moments later, the original suspect exited the home and was safely arrested. RCMP officers learned he was carrying a long flashlight while outside the gas station; no firearm was involved in the incident. RCMP officers did locate brass knuckles during the arrest, which have been seized.
The 45-year-old Nictaux man was released from custody and will be facing charges of Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. The other man, a 74-year-old also from Nictaux, was released from custody and will be facing charges of Obstructing a Peace Officer and Resisting Arrest.
Both men will appear in Annapolis Royal Provincial Court on May 23, at 9:30 a.m.
The incident remains under investigation.
