Bay St. George RCMP arrests adult and youth following spree of property damage in Stephenville

Two individuals, 18-year-old Zachary Young and a youth, both of Stephenville, were arrested by Bay St. George RCMP early this morning following a crime spree of residential property damage in Stephenville.

At approximately 1:15 a.m. today, officers on patrol came upon the pair actively damaging a vehicle that was parked in a driveway on Woodland Drive. Zachary Young, who was armed with a knife, and the youth, who was armed with an Airsoft hand gun pellet gun, used the weapons to cause damage to multiple vehicles by slashing tires and shooting at the vehicles.

While the crimes were being committed, both were wearing black ski masks. The two ran from police but were arrested without further incident and were transported to the detachment.

The youth, who is charged with multiple counts of mischief, disguise with intent, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and using an imitation weapon during the commission of a criminal offence, was released from custody. He is set to attend court at a later date.

  • Mischief – multiple counts
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Disguise with intent
  • Assaulting a police officer

This morning, police have received multiple reports of property damage to parked vehicles. Bay St. George RCMP is asking residents who reside in the areas of Main Street, Queen Street, Hillview Avenue and Gallant Street to check their property and report any damage.
