On March 27, 2023, at approximately 10:15 pm, officers conducted a traffic stop in the community of God's Lake Narrows.

Officers approached the vehicle, with a single occupant, and spoke with the male driver. In speaking with him, officers observed a firearm in the back seat of the vehicle.

Police record checks were completed on the driver which showed he had two outstanding Warrants for Arrest and that he was on conditions to not be in possession of any firearms.

The driver was placed under arrest and a search of his vehicle resulted in the seizure of two rifles, ammunition, 31 bottles of liquor, bear spray and illicit pills which presumptive tests confirmed the presence of fentanyl.

RCMP have charged Jordan Burton, 28, of Stony Mountain, with Possession of a Controlled Substance x2, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Fail to Comply with Release Order x2, and numerous firearm-related offences. He was remanded into custody for a court appearance scheduled today in Thompson Provincial Court.

The Manitoba RCMP is committed to working with First Nation communities that have enacted by-laws to prohibit the sale and possession of alcohol and have asked to make enforcement a priority. These enforcement actions will continue as per the expressed wishes of community leadership.

God's Lake Narrows RCMP continue to investigate.
