Leduc RCMP have charged one male following an incident where a stolen vehicle fled from police.
On March 2, 2023, at approximately 12 a.m., a member of Leduc RCMP was conducting proactive patrols when they observed a vehicle with an obstructed licence plate in the area of Highway 625 and QEII in Nisku, Alta. A traffic stop was initiated with the vehicle at which point it fled from police.
At approximately 12 p.m., members of the Leduc Crime Reduction Unit and General Duty located the suspect vehicle parked in the area of 49 Street and 51 Avenue in Leduc. As officers approached, the driver and passenger exited the vehicle. A query of the vehicle showed it had been stolen out of Camrose, Alta. When the officer told the driver he was under arrest, the driver attempted to flee on foot and ran in the direction of a member of the Leduc Crime Reduction Unit who took him into custody.
A search of the vehicle located numerous pieces of stolen mail and a pry bar.
A 41-year-old individual, a resident of Leduc, was charged with the following:
- Flight from police
- Possession of stolen property under $5,000
- Possession of stolen mail
- Fail to comply with release order (x3)
Following a judicial hearing, the 41-year-old individual was remanded into custody and he is scheduled to appear in Leduc provincial court on March 9, 2023.
