The Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit has charged a man with weapons offences and robbery.
On December 5, the Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit safely arrested a man in Stellarton as part of an investigation into a robbery that occurred on November 24 in Salt Springs.
On November 24, Pictou County District RCMP received a report of a robbery in Salt Springs. The investigation revealed that a man had made plans to buy tools at Exit 19 in Salt Springs. During the roadside transaction, the man selling the tools, who was known to the buyer, brandished a gun and demanded the buyer get out of his vehicle. The seller then took off with the buyer's vehicle.
A short time later, Westville Police Service observed the suspect's vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Acadia Ave. before crashing. The driver fled on foot and was not located.
As the investigation continued, officers located the suspect's vehicle at a residence in Stellarton on December 5. Upon officers' arrival at the residence, the suspect fled on foot. He was safely arrested a short time later on Foord St.
Forty-year-old Darren Brent Snell has been charged with Robbery, Pointing a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon, Theft of Motor Vehicle, Theft under $5000, Resisting a Peace Officer, Possession Contrary to Court Order. Snell was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Pictou Provincial Court on December 8.
The investigation is being led by the Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit with assistance of Pictou County District RCMP, Stellarton Police Service, Westville Police Service, New Glasgow Police Service, RCMP Synthetic Drug Unit, and RCMP Police Dog Services.
