On November 21, 2023, the La Ronge Crime Reduction Team (CRT) executed a search warrant at a residence in the Sucker River community of Lac La Ronge Indian Band as part of a drug trafficking investigation.
Officers located and seized a loaded handgun, a quantity of ammunition, approximately 172 grams of crack cocaine, a sum of cash, and other drug paraphernalia.
Two adults and one young person were arrested at the scene.
Officers located a child in the residence and brought them to a safe location.
A 33-year-old female and a 37-year-old male, both from Sucker River, are charged with:
- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
- one count, possession of the proceeds of crime, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code; and
- one count, fail to provide the necessities of life, Section 215(2)(a)(ii), Criminal Code.
We are not identifying the accused to protect the identity of the involved child.
16-year-old male from Richmond Hill, Ontario, has been charged with:
- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
- one count, possession of the proceeds of crime under $5000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, unsafe storage of a firearm, Section 86(2), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, Section 88(2), Criminal Code.
- one count, possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized, Section 92(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, Section 85(1)(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of a restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammunition without license/registration, Section 95(1)(a), Criminal Code; and
- one count, fail to comply with undertaking condition, Section 145(4)(a), Criminal Code.
We are unable to identify the youth male as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
All three accused appeared in court on November 23, 2023 in La Ronge Provincial Court.
