A 37-year-old man from Miramichi, N.B., has died following a two-vehicle collision on Route 8 near Derby Junction, N.B.

On April 13, 2024, at approximately 5:06 p.m., members of the Sunny Corner and Blackville RCMP detachments, Miramichi Fire Department, and Ambulance New Brunswick responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision involving an SUV and a pickup truck on Route 8 between the Anderson Bridge and Williamstown Road near Derby Junction, N.B.

The driver and lone occupant of the SUV died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The five occupants of the pickup truck sustained significant injuries and were transported to the hospital.

The collision is believed to have occurred when the SUV, traveling northbound on Route 8, crossed over the center line and struck the pickup truck head-on in the southbound lane.

An RCMP Collision Reconstructionist attended the scene and a member of the New Brunswick Coroner's office is also assisting with the investigation.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the man's exact cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing.
