Quick action by members of the Sackville RCMP Detachment, as well as RCMP Specialized Services, saved a 4-year-old boy who had gone missing in the Memramcook, N.B., area.

On May 20, 2024, shortly after 5 p.m., members of the Sackville RCMP Detachment received a report of a missing 4-year-old boy in the Memramcook area. It was believed that the boy had opened the door and wandered away from the residence. Due to the boy's young age, police and his family were concerned for his wellbeing.

Members immediately attended the residence, and RCMP Specialized Policing Services such as RCMP Police Dog Services and the RCMP Remotely Piloted Aerial System (RPAS), were deployed. Members of the Tri County Ground Search and Rescue team also attended to assist with the search.

Shortly after 6 p.m., approximately one hour after the initial call was received, Cpl. Annick Theriault and her Police Service Dog 'Reba' located the 4-year-old boy safe and sound in a wooded area near the residence.

"This was exceptional work by Cpl. Theriault and Reba, and all of the responding members and units," said Sgt. Eric Hanson with the Sackville RCMP. "This incident is a perfect example of how vital our police dogs are in situations like this when we need to locate someone quickly to ensure their safety."

The RCMP would like to thank the members of Tri County Ground Search and Rescue for their assistance.
