Investigative Recap

April 9: Drug trafficking investigation led by RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime Unit in Saskatchewan, results in a conviction and significant sentence

April 10: At approximately 10:30 a.m., Dillon RCMP was patrolling on Buffalo River Dene Nation. Officers observed a male known to be on multiple warrants for offences including trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and flight from peace officer.

The male was driving a quad. Upon seeing police, the male drove away at a high rate of speed. He went down a trail and the ATV became stuck. He then fled on foot.

Officers continued searching for him and about an hour later, located him hiding behind a tree.

He was arrested. Officers located and seized two bags containing a large sum of cash, approximately 123 grams of cocaine and trafficking paraphernalia beside him.

As a result of continued investigation, 41-year-old Anthony Kiezie is charged with:

- one count, trafficking, Section 5(1), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;

- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;

- one count, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code;

- one count, resist/obstruct peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code; and

- six counts, fail to comply with release order condition, Section 145(5)(a), Criminal Code.

He was also arrested on his outstanding warrants.

Anthony Kiezie appeared in court in Canoe Lake on April 11, 2024.

April 10: Warman RCMP: male charged after incident at Warman detachment

April 11: Male charged with attempted murder after discharging firearm at police officers on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation

April 12: Maple Creek RCMP: male charged with sexual assault and sexual interference

April 12: Turtleford RCMP are warning the public of the presence of dangerous illicit drugs circulating in the detachment area.

Two separate sudden deaths occurred on April 11 on Thunderchild First Nation. Preliminary investigation suggests fentanyl may have been involved in these incidents, but this cannot be confirmed until the results of a toxicology have been completed by the Saskatchewan Coroners Service. The investigations are still ongoing.

During a separate traffic stop investigation on Thunderchild First Nation on April 12, drugs located and seized by Turtleford RCMP from a vehicle later tested positive for fentanyl. This investigation continues.

"We need the public's assistance to help remove these dangerous substances from our communities and fentanyl is just one example," shares Cpl. Dwight Sacrey of the Turtleford RCMP. "Please report information about the presence of drugs or drug trafficking by calling 310-RCMP or you can report information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477."

For those seeking emergency assistance during an overdose, the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act provides some legal protection.

Signs of an individual experiencing an overdose can include slow, weak or no breathing, gurgling or choking sounds, lips or fingernails that are blue or they may appear dizzy, confused or seem exhausted. Stay with the individual and call 911 or your local emergency number to seek emergency medical assistance.

April 13: At approximately 10:30 p.m., Warman RCMP received a report of a single vehicle collision on Highway #16 near Fielding, SK. Officers immediately responded. Investigation determined a motorcyclist struck a moose. The driver and sole occupant of the motorcycle was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. He has been identified as a 54-year-old from Edmonton. His family has been notified.

Rosthern RCMP investigating recovered stolen vehicle

On April 2, 2024, Rosthern RCMP received a report of an abandoned vehicle at the intersection of Range Road 3604 and Township Road 423, near Laird, SK.

Officers responded and located a damaged Lincoln SUV. Investigation determined it had been reported as stolen to Saskatoon Police Service in March.

The investigation continues and officers are trying to identify a person who may have information about this stolen vehicle. The person is described as male, approximately 6' tall and in his early 20s. He had curly blonde hair, was unshaven and was wearing a ballcap. A sketch of the person is attached.

Carnduff RCMP: two charged after stolen vehicle located

On March 19, 2024, Carnduff RCMP received a report of a pick-up truck stolen from a farm in the Mount Pleasant area. Carnduff RCMP began working to locate the truck. On March 23, 2024, Carnduff RCMP received a report of suspicious vehicles in a rural area south of Glen Ewen. While looking for the suspicious vehicle, they located the stolen pick-up truck abandoned on Township Road 24.

As a result of continued investigation, 43-year-old John Jason Berger from Glen Ewen and 62-year-old Albert Pattyson from Enniskillen are each charged with one count, possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code.

Albert Pattyson is scheduled to appear in Estevan Provincial Court on April 29. John Jason Berger appeared in Estevan Provincial Court on April 15, 2024.
