Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes investigating homicide in La Loche

On May 22, 2024 at approximately 2:30 a.m., La Loche RCMP responded a report of an altercation at a residence in La Loche.

Officers attended the residence and smoke and flames were seen coming from the structure. Upon entering the residence, an injured 52-year-old female and an injured 82-year-old male were located. Fire departments from La Loche and Clearwater River Dene Nation responded and extinguished the fire.

The 52-year-old female was pronounced deceased at a hospital in La Loche. Her next of kin has been notified and victims services offered to the family. The 82-year-old male was transported to hospital in Saskatoon, we do not have an update on his condition.

As a result of the ongoing investigation by Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes, 49-year-old Marty Keith Toulejour of La Loche has been charged with one count of second-degree murder, Section 235 (1), Criminal Code, in relation to the death of 52-year-old Brenda Toulejour. He is also charged with one count of attempted murder, Section 239 (1)(b), Criminal Code, one count of aggravated assault, Section 268, Criminal Code, and one count of arson, Section 433 (b), Criminal Code. Marty Keith Toulejour was remanded into custody and appeared in court in La Loche on May 23, 2023.

The investigation was assisted by members of the Saskatchewan RCMP North Battleford General Investigation Section, North Battleford Forensic Identification Section, Prince Albert Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team and Meadow Lake Police Dog Services. The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency was also deployed and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service
