At 3:33 am, on April 13, 2024, Ste. Rose-du-Lac RCMP were dispatched to a report of an assault at a residence in Ebb and Flow First Nation - Gaa-gwekwekojiwang.
Upon arrival, officers heard gunshots coming from behind the residence and were notified that a male suspect, who was possibly intoxicated by drugs, had just fled with a rifle.
The RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT), Dauphin RCMP Police Dog Services, the Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS), and additional officers from the Dauphin RCMP detachment were called to assist.
Additional gunshots were heard, leading officers to a small wooded area where drone footage showed the suspect re-loading the rifle, before fleeing across a pasture into a wooded area.
After tracking the suspect for approximately 2.5 kilometres through bush, field, and marshland, officers located and arrested the male without any further incident.
At the time of the arrest, the suspect was in possession of a loaded rifle with rounds chambered.
