Thompson RCMP respond to armed robbery and arrest youth

On March 9, 2024, at approximately 12:15 pm, RCMP responded to a robbery at a business on Thompson Drive, in Thompson.

A male youth armed with a knife was behind the counter stealing items, including knives, and refusing to leave.

Officers immediately attended and the suspect was still behind the counter, armed with a knife, and trying to open the cash register. Officers attempted to arrest the male but he refused to listen to commands, and threatened officers with the knife. The suspect tried to grab one of the officers' firearms, however the officer was able to get the suspect down to the ground, which caused the male to drop the knife. The male continued to resist arrest, however he was placed into custody.

The suspect was searched and found to be in possession of four knives and a pair of scissors.

A 16-year-old male from Thompson has been charged with:

Robbery with a Weapon
Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon x2
Assault with a Weapon x2
Uttering Threats x2
Resisting Arrest
Possession Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

He was remanded into custody.
