On February 18, 2024, Jayna Knott, 26, of Wasagamack Anisininew Nation, was charged with Second Degree murder in the homicide of a one-year-old male that occurred on February 17, 2024.
She was remanded into custody.
On February 17, 2024, at approximately 9:15 am, Island Lake RCMP responded to a child death on Wasagamack First Nation.
Officers arrived and located a one-year-old male deceased. The death is being investigated as a homicide.
A 26-year-old female has been arrested and remains in custody.
RCMP are not looking for any other suspects and there is no risk to the community.
Island Lake RCMP along with Major Crime Services and the Forensic Identification Services continue to investigate.
