Bay St. George RCMP arrests three impaired drivers in five days

Bay St. George RCMP continues with the enforcement of impaired drivers after arresting three individuals for impaired driving within five days.

At approximately 11:00 p.m. on July 31, 2020, Bay St. George RCMP was on patrol and observed an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) driving in oncoming traffic on the Main Road in Lourdes. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, a 58-year-old man, was suspected to be impaired by alcohol. He was arrested for impaired driving, was transported to the detachment and provided breath samples that were more than twice the legal limit. The man was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date to face pending charges of impaired driving. His licence was suspended and the ATV was seized and impounded.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on August 2, 2020, Bay St. George RCMP received a report of an erratic driver on Brookside Drive in Stephenville Crossing. Police patrolled, located the described car and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a 45-year-old man, showed signs of alcohol impairment. He was arrested for impaired driving, was transported to the detachment and provided breath samples that were nearly three times the legal limit. He was later released and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date to face pending charges of impaired driving. His licence was suspended and the car was seized and impounded. The man was also ticketed for operating a vehicle without registration and without insurance.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on August 4, 2020, Bay St. George RCMP was on patrol on the Trans Canada Highway near Barachois Brook and observed a car travelling considerably below the posted speed limit. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, a 55-year-old woman, was suspected to be impaired by alcohol. She failed a roadside breath test, was arrested for impaired driving and was transported to the detachment where she provided breath samples that were above the legal limit. The woman was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date to face pending charges of impaired driving. Her license was suspended and the car was seized and impounded.
