RCMP charges two drivers with impaired driving following motor vehicle collisions

RCMP in Holyrood and Ferryland have charged two drivers involved in separate motor vehicle collisions with impaired driving over the past two days.

On February 16, 2020, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Holyrood RCMP were dispatched to a report of a single-vehicle collision east of Salmonier line on the Trans Canada Highway. The driver, a 54-year-old man, was prohibited from driving within Canada and police determined he was impaired by alcohol. He was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited and transported to Holyrood detachment where he provided breath samples more than three times the legal limit. He was later released from custody and is set to appear in court in May, 2020, to face impaired driving charges.

On February 17th, 2020, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Ferryland RCMP were dispatched to a collision involving two vehicles at the Foodland parking lot in Bay Bulls. A 64-year-old man was subsequently arrested at the scene for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and later charged with refusal to provide a breath sample. He is scheduled appear in court in April, 2020, to answer to charges of impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample.
