RCMP Traffic Services seizes truck for excessive speeds of 165 kms/hr on the TCH near Pinch Gut Lake.

RCMP Traffic Services West ticketed one driver for excessive speeding on Sunday morning and arrested another driver just after lunch for driving while prohibited and being at large on a warrant.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., RCMP Traffic Services West was on patrol on the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) near Pinch Gut Lake. The officer observed a truck travelling at a high rate of speed, activated the radar and obtained the vehicle's speed as 165 kms/hr. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, a 21-year-old man from Port au Port East, was ticketed for the excessive speed. Police suspended his driver's licence and seized and impounded the truck.

At approximately 12:45 p.m., RCMP Traffic Services West conducted a traffic stop with a motorcycle having expired registration in Howley. Police determined that the driver, 38-year-old Steven Flight of Howley, was prohibited from driving under the Criminal Code of Canada and was wanted on an arrest warrant held by Corner Brook RCMP. The warrant is in relation to charges of possession of stolen property, fraud, and another incident of driving while prohibited stemming from a break and enter at the North Atlantic Gas Station in Steady Brook in August of 2019.

Flight was arrested, ticketed for having no registration and insurance, held in custody and attends court today, where he will answer to his outstanding warrant and face a new charge for driving while prohibited.
