Point Firearm, Possess Weapon Dangerous Purpose and Escape Lawful Custody - Biggar RCMP Detachment

On April 18, 2021, shortly before 6:00 p.m. Biggar RCMP detachment received a call from a complainant advising that an adult male had pointed a firearm at another person. The caller advised this occurred in the Biggar Detachment area. The caller advised police that the adult male then left the location with a female youth in his vehicle. All three persons were known to each other.

Biggar Detachment RCMP officers responded and located the suspect's vehicle on Highway #14 shortly after 7:00 p.m. with the adult male and female youth inside. The adult male exited the vehicle and became a hazard to motorists travelling on Highway #14. Officers blocked traffic to ensure the safety of the adult male and passing motorists during the arrest of the male. The adult male was placed under arrest. After resisting arrest the male was transported to Biggar Hospital for treatment of minor self-inflicted injuries.

Biggar RCMP located a firearm and ammunition in the adult male's vehicle.

At 8:30 p.m. on April 18th, 2021 the adult male was at the Biggar hospital for treatment when before 9:00 p.m., the male escaped custody and left the hospital.

The RCMP Police Dog Services, additional RCMP officers from the Biggar detachment, Rosetown detachment, Unity detachment, Saskatoon detachment, and Warman detachments were called in to assist in locating the male; along with air service support from the City of Saskatoon Police Services.

The investigation revealed that following his escape the male stole a vehicle from a residence in Biggar that was known to him, and travelled out of town, east of Biggar.

Just after midnight on April 19, 2021, the male was located near Landis, Saskatchewan. The male was arrested and taken into police custody without further incident or injury.

Jordy LESCHINSKI (Age 20) of Biggar Saskatchewan was charged with 19 Criminal offenses including: Escaping Custody, Possession of a Firearm obtained in the Commission of an Offense, Pointing a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle, and Possession of a Firearm without holding a valid possession license. LESCHINSKI was also charged with 3 Counts of Assault with a Weapon, theft of a Motor Vehicle, theft of a Firearm, and multiple breaches of his Probation Order, as well as some other offenses from the same incident.

LESCHINSKI was remanded in custody to appear in the North Battleford Provincial Court on April 20, 2021.
