News release

The Grand Bay-Westfield RCMP is asking for the public's help as part of an ongoing sexual assault investigating dating back to the 1990's.

In October 2022, police received a report of sexual assault incidents involving a business owner in Kennebecasis Valley between 1993 and 1994. Following a subsequent investigation, a 51-year-old man from the Saint John area was arrested on November 1, 2022.

On November 29, Peter Edward Casey was charged with sexual assault with a weapon, sexual assault, assault, and uttering threats. He was released on conditions, and is scheduled to appear in court in January 2023. Police are working to determine if there were other victims.

"This is still an active and ongoing investigation, and we are working diligently to determine if there were other victims," says Sgt. Luc Samson with the Grand Bay-Westfield RCMP. "We want people to know that there is no statute of limitations on reports of sexual assault, and a report can be made at any time no matter how far back the assault occurred. If you are a victim, please contact us. You will be listened to and you will be believed."

If you are a victim, or have any information related to these incidents or similar ones, please contact the Grand Bay-Westfield RCMP at 506-757-1020. If you have information that may assist the investigation and would like to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by downloading the secure P3 Mobile App, or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.
