RCMP’s Major Crime Unit investigating homicide

The New Brunswick RCMP's Major Crime Unit is investigating the death of a man in Elsipogtog First Nation, N.B., as a homicide.

On December 2, 2022, at approximately 3:15 p.m., members of the Elsipogtog and Richibucto RCMP detachments responded to a report of an altercation at a residence on Main Street, in Elsipogtog First Nation. When police arrived on scene, they found a 24-year-old man from the community in medical distress, who appeared to have suffered stab wounds. First aid was administered on scene by RCMP members until Ambulance New Brunswick paramedics arrived. The man was transported to hospital, and later died as a result of his injuries.

An individual from Elsipogtog First Nation was arrested on scene without incident, and later released.

An autopsy has been scheduled to help determine the man's exact cause of death. Police are investigating the man's death as a homicide.
