2020 Gender and Harassment Advisory Committee Annual Report - F Division

Background

F Division QI Gender and Harassment Advisory Committee (GHAC) meeting was held in F Division HQ on May 16, 2019, and a Q3 meeting was held in F Division Headquarters on November 6, 2019.

Objectives

  • To promote awareness of the F GHAC committee, its mandate and initiatives to F Division employees.
  • For the F GHAC committee to become more knowledgeable in the areas of harassment, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity, equity and inclusivity so that we can share information with divisional employees and advise the Commanding Officer accordingly.

Current status

  • F GHAC committee member Corporal Rielly Knock attended the Second World LGBT conference for Criminal Justice Professionals in June, 2019 in Toronto, ON. His attendance and participation at the conference resulted in making many good contacts, learning best practices and initiatives that will be shared with our committee and F Division.
  • After learning of a newly engaged member to F Division enquiring about the existence of gender inclusive washrooms in their detachment, the Commanding Officer reached out to National Headquarters on relevant information and as a committee, we reviewed considerations and tips on inclusive facilities.
  • F GHAC committee member Corporal Rielly Knock was recognized by OUTSaskatoon with the KnockOUT award. The award is open to an individual, organization, or business who has made a significant contribution to increasing the awareness and acceptance of LGBTQ people. "In particular, this award speaks to advancements made within particular organizations or sectors, so in this case, it is your work within the RCMP that really shines as it brings our whole community up when people are working within systems that have otherwise been more closeted or uncomfortable spaces for us." - Dr. Rachel Lowen Walker, Exec. Director OUTSaskatoon. Corporal Knock's award was featured on the 'Kudos!' portion of our F Division Infoweb.
  • Many F Division employees and family members participated in the 2019 Pride Parade in Regina, Saskatchewan.
  • F GHAC has agreed to take the lead on the 2020 F Division Diversity week.
